And then there was rain ….

In so many ways it feels like time is standing still and yet three weeks has passed already! Would love to say that I have spent endless hours adventuring along the coast or further up in to the jungle, but the reality is, it’s been pretty tame on the wandering side. There has been a significant amount of rainfall since I arrived and that has kept my movements a little more restrained. And when I say a significant amount I mean:

Although the room I am staying in was completely unaffected, there was widespread damage throughout this coastal region and up into the mountains (landslides trapped hundreds of people overnight and flooding was horrific as culverts plugged from all the heavy debris being washed down). Heaviest Rainfall I have ever experienced. During this downpour we received about 350 mm (14″) of rain in 6 hours. I am in a rainforest so yes, rain is expected lol, but this has been outside of what my experience of this area has been (sustained days of rain with little to no breaks in between).

As such, I have spent a significant amount of time around the property exploring the creatures in the nearby spaces. I am convinced that my hosts think I may be “poco loco”. But I have been having a fantastic time photographing even the smallest of the animal kingdom. You can see the updated albums here for all the interesting little things I have been finding!!! The Creepy Crawly Collection

There have been a few days where the weather did break for short windows and I have been able to walk the beach a few times. The beaches in this area are incredibly beautiful but not necessarily for the faint of heart (or poor of swim???) The undertows and riptides are strong here so critically important to swim where the locals swim! I am looking forward to better weather so I can spend some time at Punta Uva where there is fantastic swimming and snorkeling places.

For these quick meanderings I have updating Costa Rica – 2018 so take a peak to see a few of the photos so far. Note: All the creepy crawlies are removed from this page and are stored in the The Creepy Crawly Collection

Although adventures at the beach or further in to the jungle have been pretty limited, I most certainly have not been housebound. I am so fortunate to have a tremendous group of friends here! We have had numerous laughs (maybe a cerveza or two???), great meals and all round good times! Thankful to these amazing people! As much as I love this country it is these people who made me fall in love with this area.

Tomorrow I head out to ARA. Really not sure what I will have for connectivity there so if you don’t hear from me for a while, no worries – life is good! Pura Vida! I am incredibly excited to be an active participant in the work that this tremendous organization does (The ARA Project) and look forward to sharing my experiences here with you!

Before I sign off, I also want to say a special thank you to Walter and Maria (Bungalows Kilima Selva y Mar) for their amazing hospitality! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them and will return I have no doubt 😉

Love and Light
